About the Owner

Hi, my name is Chris Jellie.

I grew up in Auckland N.Z. the son of an airline executive. This was a privileged position as I could travel around the world from a very young age.

I left school to pursue a panel beating career. At that time in New Zealand, to be a licensed repairer of damaged vehicles, we were required to serve a 4500 hour apprenticeship. I was very lucky when choosing a place of employment, one of the first people I called was Mike Jakich Panel Beaters.

Mike Jakich had served his apprenticeship at a time when cars were made from 16 and 18 gauge steel. He was taught the art of “lead filling” and “hammer and filing” as well as making sure a car was square once finished. He passed onto me the skills I would need to repair cars with in that area. One of which was “hammering and filing” Although I grew to love doing this, at first the concept of hitting down on the steel in order to bring up the hollows was something that for the first few days I just couldn’t grasp. I was trying to fix a Mini front guard and after 2 days it looked like the face of the moon, not a smooth front panel. Mike persevered with me and in 1990 I became licensed and completed my apprenticeship. I stayed on for 1 year before a friend visited me and explained he had just returned from Japan and could set me up with a job. That was all I needed to hear, I was on the plane ASAP.

Japan was an intriguing place, for the first time I really couldn’t understand what was being said. I spent 6 years learning about the culture, language and martial arts. After a motor bike accident I was unable to continue Aikido studies, so I took up Kuydo (Japanese Archery). The way you let yourself go and become one with what your body is doing is a feeling I will never tire from. I earned my Black Belt which was given to me from the top Kyudo teacher in Japan and therefore the world. Once I even came second in the Nagasaki Prefectural Kuydo tournament, but that’s another story.

Nine years ago, I returned to N.Z. and landed a job with a leading eCommerce company selling Japanese cars directly from the source in Japan to the wholesale market in N.Z. My job was to inspect the cars before the company purchased them. So back to Japan I went. I was the only true inspector in Japan to cover the whole country, and boy did I work. I learnt a lot from this company but the most amazing thing was it put me at the forefront of the technology at that time, and into a position where I was able to watch how the internet was changing the market. I have seen car dealers come and go, countries open for imports only to close again, but the impact the internet has had on this business we are still trying to come to terms with. Rest assured the internet has made access to the second hand Japanese car market much more accessible. And a whole new set of challenges has arisen.

I love what I do, I love driving cars. Through my extensive time in this trade I have identified one of the main issues facing the market today, and one the market will continue to face into the future, and that is the problem of quality. Let’s face it; our car is probably going to be the second biggest thing we purchase. It is what we have to sit in for hours on end and for that reason we want something that looks good to us, does the job, is safe and maybe even reflect who we are. So we don’t want to be pushed into something we might not like, we don’t want to pay too much, and we want to get quality, safety and reliability for the money we spend. But how do you do that when buying a car off the internet in Japan?

Easy, check the pre-export inspection process companies are offering. (we have the best available, our customers’ cars even return to the manufacturer before export so they can also confirm the condition of the car, nobody else does this.) Check what services are done on your behalf when the car arrives. If the service is a “Japan to Port in your country” service, you might receive large unexpected bills either in shipping, tax or even the mechanical or bodywork side of your vehicle.

Global Online Cars specializes in a “one stop service” we will not leave you hanging. The pre-shipping service we offer is jammed full inspections based of the regulatory requirements of your country as well as the structure and mechanical workings of your car, check out the details on our web site. We cover every aspect of your car

So with my panel beating experience, Internet knowledge, combined with my language ability and Japanese style customer service skills, I can promise you a safe, reliable, and rewarding purchasing experience for the new car YOU choose. At GOLC’s we are not sales people, we are workers put here to find exactly what you want and get it to you. If you don’t know what you want but do know what you need it for and what color you want it in, tell me and I will get to you sample pictures of what fits that category for you to look at.

Chris Jellie
